Celebrate with us as we honor the incredible graduates of 2024 at this year's Homeboy Industries Graduation Ceremony! This joyous event will take place on June 20th at 10 AM and will celebrate 88 graduates who have achieved academic milestones, including GEDs, AAs, BAs, and Master's degrees. Many of these graduates will be transferring to California schools such as UCB, UCD, CSULA, and Cal Poly. Meet one of these amazing graduates below!
🎓 Graduate Noemi Fonseca
Noemi came to Homeboy Industries in 2019 as a trainee, facing significant challenges including unstable housing and lack of education. Despite these obstacles, she demonstrated extraordinary resilience and determination. During her time at Homeboy, she secured stable housing and obtained her driver's license. Her dedication and hard work led to her promotion to navigator in 2020, where she inspired others by building strong relationships with those beginning their transformative journeys. In 2021, she was further promoted to the DV department, where she now facilitates DV, parenting, and anger management classes. Noemi also earned her GED and recently graduated with an AA in Psychology and another degree in Social Behavioral Sciences, achieving an impressive 3.8 GPA and gaining acceptance to CSULA.
Adding to her accomplishments, Noemi graduated with her AA/T in Sociology from ELAC and will be transferring to CSULA this year. She completed the HBI 18-month program and enrolled in college while still a trainee at Homeboy Industries. Now an integral part of the senior staff, Noemi aspires to become a therapist at Homeboy Industries, with a passionate commitment to helping others heal from their traumas. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative support of Homeboy Industries.
When asked who her biggest cheerleaders are, she stated, "My biggest cheerleaders are my 4 children, and my department, and all the trainees. ❤️"
